"Touchy Subjects" Web Quest (September 9)

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE ABSENT, YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT ON YOUR OWN, USING THE CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE YOU CAME UP WITH.

Instructions

Print out the graphic organizer here.

For your homework, you found a controversial issue and made predictions about why it is so hot-button.  Why were there arguments over it?  Between your group members, choose one person's issue, and further research it, filling in the appropriate boxes on the graphic organizer.  In the source box, you need to cite your Internet source in MLA style, according to the provisions for Internet sources listed in your MLA handbook.  You may need to go to more than one web site to find opposing viewpoints and their respective quotes.

When you are finished with your research, your group will present your findings to the class.

Mr. Boody's Example

This is the example I showed you in class.  I was watching the news at home one night and saw that Muslim leaders were considering plans to build a mosque in New York City, just blocks from Ground Zero.  For further research, I Googled "Proposed mosque, New York City" and came up with this article.

This article was objective, in that it gave me just the facts about the proposed mosque, and told me there was some controversey surrounding it.  To further research the opposing arguments, I did a search for them, Googling "NYC Mosque controversey, For" and "NYC Mosque controversey, Against", and came up with each side's respective articles.
